Senior year has a way of making everything feel bigger — the emotions, the milestones, and the realization that your child is on the edge of adulthood. As Heaven prepares for graduation and college, I’ve found myself balancing excitement with moments of overwhelm and reflection. This season has required intention, patience, and a whole lot of grace. While there’s no manual for navigating senior year, these are the ways I’ve been managing this transition and supporting Heaven as she prepares for her next chapter.
Here are a few tips below:
- Keeping communication open~I check in with Heaven often—not just about grades or applications, but about how she’s feeling. Senior year can be overwhelming, and I want her to feel supported emotionally, not pressured.
- Breaking everything into smaller steps~College prep can feel like a lot. We tackle applications, essays, and deadlines one at a time so it doesn’t become overwhelming.
- Letting her take the lead~This is her journey. I guide her, but I also allow her to make decisions and learn independence while knowing I’m always here.
- Celebrating small wins~Every acceptance letter, completed application, or milestone gets acknowledged. It keeps morale high and reminds her of how far she’s come.
- Extending grace~To her—and to myself. This season comes with emotions, stress, and transition. We’re learning together.
- Staying present~Amid the chaos, I’m soaking in the moments. Senior year is bittersweet, but it’s also beautiful to witness
